Bartholomew County

Earth Day 2024 — 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center, 720 S. Mapleton St., Columbus. Bartholomew County residents only. No businesses or out of county residents. Amnesty for hard to dispose of wastes. Mulch/compost Loading from 8 a.m. to noon. Bartholomew County residents get a pick-up truck load of mulch or compost free. Educational displays including informational booths along with children’s activities. Document shredding from 9 to 11 a.m. Plant swap, including advice and garden tips, and tree giveaway. A hot dog roast will be from 11 am. to 1 p.m.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) No. 168 — 10 to 11:45 a.m., St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 719 Fifth St., Columbus.

Lights Up Sound Down Movie — 10 a.m. to noon, Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., Columbus. Watch a movie with us in a sensory-friendly environment. This month’s movie will be “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” (PG). Food and drink is not allowed in the movie room.

Cuentos y Cantos — 11 to 11:30 a.m., Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., Columbus. Los niños de 3-5 años están invitados a una hora de cuentos y cantos. Nos divertiremos con cuentos, canciones y rimas. Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers are invited to a storytime in Spanish. We will have fun with stories, songs, and rhymes.

Notary available at Hope Library — 2 to 3 p.m., Hope Branch Library, 635 Harrison St., Hope. Come to Hope Branch Library on Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. to get items notarized by staff member notary Jennifer Pardue. Please bring photo ID. This is a Hope walk-in hour with no appointment required.

Teen DIY: Rock Painting — 3:30 to 5 p.m., Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., Columbus. Paint rocks to decorate your gardens, plant pots, or any other space that you feel could be made better with the addition of a pretty rock. We will provide all painting supplies and rocks, so you just have to bring yourself and maybe some fun ideas.
