Gala event nets record donations for hospice

The 21st annual Jennings Gala was about big numbers.

A sold-out crowd of more than 450 people Feb. 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon helped net a record $68,000 at the benefit event for Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

The annual event raises money to help Jennings County hospice patients and their families.

“This event would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors,” said Our Hospice of South Central Indiana President Laura Leonard, referencing title sponsors and other community donors.

The theme for this year’s gala was “Beach Party.”

Twelve Jennings County High School juniors and seniors competed for the title of Gala queen and raised more than $28,000 combined in donations. Emy Ralston was crowned queen.

The live and silent auctions generated more than $16,000 in donations.

The success of the event has Gala organizers looking forward to next year.

“We have already started to plan for the 22nd annual Gala, and we hope to have a sold out event next February,” Leonard said.
