A local man was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while intoxicated after his truck struck a traffic control box knocking out power to the traffic signals at a Columbus intersection.
At 11:20 p.m. Thursday night, CPD officers responded to the intersection of Middle Road and Rockyford Road in regards to the crash, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The arriving officers observed that a truck crashed into a traffic control box and also struck a tree near the intersection. Officers noted that the driver of the truck, Adrian T. Villegas, 24, of Columbus appeared impaired and failed several field sobriety tests at the scene, Harris said.
Prior to transporting Villegas to Columbus Regional Hospital, the officers located drug paraphernalia in his clothing. After obtaining a blood sample at the hospital, Villegas was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was being held on preliminary
charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia.
