Board of Works approves transfer of parks’ Jackson Street property to the city

Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety members approved the transfer of an environmentally-contaminated property to the city from the city’s parks board.

The board voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the transfer of the vacant former Machinery Moving Inc. site at 1360 Jackson St. from the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department to the city.

Parks board members approved an agreement to purchase the site for $205,000 on July 24 at a special meeting. The property is owned by Lienhoop’s aunt, Norma Lienhoop. Jim Lienhoop has recused himself from all negotiations or decisions about the building and has repeatedly referred all questions about the transaction to parks officials handling the negotiations.

City finance director Jamie Brinegar said any time the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department acquires property, the land is transferred to the city through the Board of Works.
