Police investigating shooting death in 2000 block of Home Avenue

The Columbus Police Department along with the Bartholomew County Death Investigation Team is investigating a shooting that occurred inside a Columbus home early Saturday morning.
Shortly before 1 a.m., Columbus police officers were sent to a residence in the 2000 block of Home Avenue in regards to a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located a man with multiple gunshot wounds inside a home, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The homeowner reported to law enforcement officers that he was confronted by an unknown person with a baseball bat inside his home. The homeowner reportedly discharged a firearm a short time later, striking the man, Harris said.
The man was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead, Harris said.
The ongoing investigation is currently being conducted by the Bartholomew County Death Investigation Team.
