DeDomenic resigns from county council

With over two years left on her term, Laura DeDomenic has resigned from the Bartholomew County Council.

The District 2 councilwoman notified council president Matt Miller late Tuesday morning that she was resigning immediately to accept a full-time job in the office of Bartholomew County Auditor Pia O’Connor, Miller said.

Since the council sets salaries, nobody is allowed to simultaneously work for the county and serve on the council, Miller said.

Beginning Monday, DeDomenic will begin her new job as the county’s payroll administrator, a position recently vacated by Kim Thompson, O’Connor said.

“Laura’s experience on the council, as well as her understanding of both government financial funds and accounting, will be very helpful,” O’Connor said. “But she’ll definitely be missed on the county council.

The next step will be for Bartholomew County GOP chairwoman Barb Hackman to call a caucus of precinct committee members to choose a successor for DeDomenic on the council, Miller said. Only those residing within the district will participate in the caucus, which Hackman says will likely be held within 30 days.

Whoever is chosen as DeDomenic’s successor will finish out her current term, which runs through the end of 2022.
