Local man accused of entering apartment without permission

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man on several charges including residential entry after he was accused of entering a Columbus apartment without permission on Thursday night.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 1000 block of Phoenix Court in regards to a report of a person refusing to leave an apartment, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. When the officers arrived at the apartment, they observed the residents attempting to push the suspect out the front door.

After a short struggle with officers, the suspect, later identified as Tyrrice L. Degraffenreid, 37, of Columbus was taken into custody. The residents later advised that Degraffenreid knocked on their door and later forced his way into the apartment when he observed officers arrive to investigate the disturbance call, Harris said.

Officers determined that Degraffenreid had a local warrant for his arrest and they also located drugs and drug paraphernalia in his clothing, Harris said.

He was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and later to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, residential entry, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, false identity statement and a Bartholomew County warrant.
