Elizabethtown firefighters receive grant for turnout gear

FRANKLIN — A restaurant chain is helping keep a number of Sandcreek Township firefighters safer in the future.

The Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department is one of three Hoosier first responder organizations that will share in a total of $55,413 being awarded by the Indiana Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The funds were awarded to the southeast Bartholomew County department, as well as agencies from Johnson and Monroe counties, during a 10:30 a.m. presentation Wednesday at the Firehouse Subs restaurant, 1707 N. Morton St. in Franklin.

The funds being awarded to Elizabethtown will be used to purchase nine sets of bunker gear to replace outdated and damaged firefighter coats, pants, boots and gloves, according to the foundation.
