Prep sports notebook: Gault commits to DePauw; locals named All-MHC

Columbus East senior Caaden Gault has committed to continue his football career at DePauw.

Gault was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Olympians. He led the team with 98 tackles, including five for losses, and two forced fumbles last fall.

Locals make All-MHC basketball teams

The All-Mid-Hoosier Conference girls and boys basketball teams were announced on Sunday.

For the boys, Hauser’s Ledger Gelfius, Taeshaun Tungate, Stryker Gill and Kam Blair; South Decatur’s Jacob Scruggs and Edinburgh’s Connor Ramey and Austin Brockman were named All-MHC. Hauser’s Alex Cord and South Decatur’s Colby Rathburn were honorable mention selections.

Trent Moorhead, who led Hauser to the conference title, was named MHC Coach of the Year.

For the girls, Hauser’s Norah Berkenstock and South Decatur’s Kylie Best and Makayla Somers were named All-MHC. Hauser’s Bella Kilps, South Decatur’s Molly Eden and Paige McQueen and Edinburgh’s Kenna Streeval and Kyah Streeval were honoarable mention picks.

Woodard, Elmore selected to Top 60

Jennings County seniors Juilann Woodard and Alivia Elmore have been selected to participate in the annual Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 Girls workout that will take place Sunday at Beech Grove High School.

The first session is from 1-3 p.m., and the second session from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Both sessions are open to the public for an admission fee of $8.

Jennings players make HBCA team

Jennings County boys basketball seniors Austin Byford, Dorian Hacker and Cole Sigler were named to the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association All-District 3 team.

The trio are finalists among a pool that will be selected for the East-West All-Star Classic that will be announced by the HBCA at a later date.
