Hungary's leading broadcaster RTL Klub banned from parliament for unauthorized reporting

BUDAPEST, Hungary — Hungary's parliament has banned leading broadcaster RTL Klub for allegedly reporting from areas in the building closed to the press.

A letter from the legislature's press office published Friday by RTL, Hungary's most-watched TV station, said Parliamentary Speaker Laszlo Kover had decided to exclude its reporters until the station guarantees that similar incidents won't be repeated.

Kover has greatly limited press access since becoming speaker in 2010. He suspended most permanent press passes and has significantly restricted the use of TV and photo cameras in the building.

RTL reporters were ejected Thursday by parliament security after they tried to enter a news event held by Prime Minister and NATO Secretary-General . Only Hungarian state media was allowed in during the officials' press statements.
