Teens serve as House pages

Students are serving as Indiana House pages during the 2015 session of the Indiana General Assembly. Pages are able to see how the state Legislature works in a behind-the-scenes tour.

They work alongside legislators, legislative assistants and interns. On session days, pages see how a bill becomes law as they watch legislators on the House floor debate issues. Pages also observe floor sessions of the House, Senate and Supreme Court chambers.

Serving recently were:

  • Mert Katirci, junior, Columbus North High School, for Rep. Milo Smith, R-Columbus
  • Dietrich Smith, sophomore, Hauser Junior Senior High School, for Rep. Milo Smith, R-Columbus
  • Mauro Cumbe, junior, Hauser Junior Senior High School, for Rep. Sean Eberhart, R-Shelbyville

Youth tour applications available

Two high school juniors have a chance to join other Indiana teens on a free trip to the 2015 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. through Bartholomew County REMC.

Indiana’s electric cooperatives have hosted the Youth Tour since 1960, providing opportunities for youth to visit Washington, D.C. and learn about the federal government and the cooperative utility industry.

The trip leaves from Indianapolis June 11 and ends June 18. Trip expenses are completely covered by Bartholomew County REMC.

Applications, due by Friday, are available at the Bartholomew County REMC office at 1697 W. Deaver Road or at bcremc.com/youth-tour.
