Columbus man arrested on counterfeiting charge

Columbus police arrested a man on a counterfeiting/forgery charge after a disturbance was reported at a local gas station.

Raymond L. Anderson, 31, 1443 Sycamore St., was taken into custody about 2:25 p.m. Saturday after police were sent to the 1600 block of Central Avenue, said Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police spokesman.

Officers found three men nearby, and as they approached them, Anderson dropped something on the ground, Harris said. When Anderson picked it up, officers noted it was a $20 bill, but the bill did not look authentic.

When officers asked if Anderson had any more of the currency, he gave officers eight more fraudulent $20 bills that were in his pants pocket, Harris said.

Anderson is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail with no bond, jail officials said.
