Hilda Mae Shafer Lee, 96, of Marysville, Michigan, died Sunday, October 23, 2016.

She was born July 7, 1920, in Brown County, Indiana, to the late James Faucett and Alice Hendershot Shafer.

Hilda was born during the Depression into a farming family. During World War II she worked in Mansfield, Ohio, and later moved to Detroit to work in the factories. She was a true Rosie the Riveter. She met and married Harry E. Lee, MD, and lived in Detroit until the 1980s until she moved back to her beloved Brown County, Indiana. She lived the last 10 years in Marysville, Michigan, near her daughters and their families.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo (Richard) Boughton and Cindy (Frederick) Lindow; grandchildren, David Boughton, Michael (Lauren) Lee, Cassandra (Ernest) Wheeler and Mark (Cheryl) Lindow; great-grandchildren, Sophie Lee and Seth Lindow; brother, Robert H. (Betty) Shafer; sisters, Alice (Libby) Neiman and June Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Ira William Shafer, Floyd Harlan Shafer and James Faucett Shafer Jr.; sisters, Hesper Louise Shafer and Mary Margaret Perry; and a great-granddaughter, Peyton Wheeler.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Marysville Funeral Home, 1200 Michigan Ave., Marysville, Michigan, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate.
