Club Olympia swimmers shine in Day of Power Invitational

Local athletes make splash

Club Olympia finished fourth out of 16 teams last weekend in Lawrence Swim Team’s Day of Power Invitational at Lawrence North High School.

Nalanie Cortez won all five of her events — the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly — in the 11-12-year-old girls division. Rachel Sabotin won the girls open 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley and finished third in the 200 backstroke.

Brady Beyer won the 11-12 boys 50 breaststroke and 12-and-under boys 100 breaststroke and placed fourth in the 12-and-under boys 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle and seventh in the 11-12 boys 50 butterfly. Misha Machavariani won the 12-and-under boys 100 butterfly and finished third in the 100 freestyle, fourth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 100 backstroke and was second in the 10-and-under boys 50 freestyle.

Maggie Johnson finished second in the 12-and-under girls 100 freestyle, third in the 100 butterfly, fourth in the 50 butterfly, fifth in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 50 backstroke. Riddhi Garg took sixth in the girls open 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke, seventh in the 100 backstroke, eighth in the 100 freestyle and 11th in the 50 freestyle.

Blake Day was second in the boys open 200 freestyle, ninth in the 100 backstroke, 15th in the 100 freestyle, 18th in the 50 freestyle and 19th in the 100 breaststroke. Pratt Badve took fourth in the 11-12 boys 50 breaststroke, fifth in the 50 backstroke, sixth in the 50 butterfly and ninth in the 50 freestyle and took seventh in the 12-and-under boys 100 freestyle.

Olivia Morlok finished second in the girls open 200 butterfly, third in the 200 IM, fourth in the 100 butterfly and ninth in the 200 breaststroke. Sydney Morlok took fourth in the 12-and-under girls 100 freestyle, sixth in the 11-12 girls 50 butterfly, ninth in the 50 freestyle, 11th in the 50 backstroke and 13th in the 50 breaststroke.

Sanaa Kulkarni finished sixth in the 8-and-under girls 25 freestyle and 25 breaststroke, ninth in the 25 butterfly, 15th in the 25 backstroke and 70th in the 10-and-under girls 50 freestyle. Allison Clauss took seventh in the 10-and-under girls 50 backstroke, eighth in the 50 butterfly, 12th in the 50 freestyle and 17th in the 50 breaststroke and 30th in the 12-and-under girls 100 freestyle.

Arjun Bhadoria finished ninth in the 11-12 boys 50 breaststroke, 13th in the 50 backstroke and 14th in the 50 butterfly and 16th in the 12-and-under 100 backstroke and 25th in the 100 freestyle. Christoper Lee took 10th in the boys open 100 butterfly, 12th in the 100 backstroke, 18th in the 100 breaststroke, 19th in the 100 freestyle and 20th in the 50 freestyle.

Daniella Preston finished 10th in the 10-and-under girls 50 butterfly and 16th in the 50 breaststroke and 18th in the 12-and-under girls 50 backstroke, 26th in the 50 freestyle and 35th in the 100 freestyle. Lovely Panda took 13th in the 8-and-under girls 25 breaststroke and 14th in the 25 freestyle and 17th in the 10-and-under girls 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly and 75th in the 50 freestyle. Maddie Beyer was 12th in the 10-and-under girls 50 breaststroke, 32nd in the 50 backstroke and 36th in the 50 freestyle and 23rd in the 12-and-under girls 100 breaststroke and 52nd in the 100 freestyle.

A week earlier, Johnson won the High-Point Award for the 11-12 girls, and Brady Beyer took the High-Point Award for the 11-12 boys in Chill on the Hill Invitational at South Dearborn High School. Johnson won the 200 IM, 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle and finished second in the 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly. Brady Beyer captured the 200 IM, 200 freestyle and 200 breaststroke and took second in the 100 butterfly.

Club Olympia began the month of February by competing in the Jay County Winter Invitational. Cortez and Machavariani each won all four of their individual events.

For 11-year-old girls, Cortez is ranked first in Indiana and sixth in the nation in the 200 freestyle (1 minute, 59.31 seconds), first in Indiana and 10th in the nation in the 1,000 freestyle (11:16.54), first in Indiana and 15th in the nation in the 200 butterfly (2:19.54), second in Indiana and sixth in the nation in the 100 freestyle (54.91), second in Indiana and 12th in the nation in the 100 butterfly (1:01.31), second in Indiana and 15th in the nation in the 50 freestyle (25.42), second in Indiana and 49th in the nation in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.19), third in Indiana and 42nd in the nation in the 200 IM (2:19.06), third in Indiana and 49th in the nation in the 50 butterfly (28.33) and fifth in Indiana and 44th in the nation in the 50 backstroke (29.74). She also ranks second in Indiana, eighth in the Central Zone and 14th in the nation in the IM Xtreme Challenge, which is based on times from the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

In the 11-year-old boys age group, Machavariani ranks first in Indiana and fourth in the nation in the 200 IM (2:28.90), first in Indiana and sixth in the nation in the 100 butterfly (1:08.62), first in Indiana and 10th in the nation in the 200 freestyle (2:14.79), first in Indiana and 12th in the nation in the 500 freestyle (6:03.11), first in Indiana and 17th in the nation in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.78), first in Indiana and 18th in the nation in the 100 freestyle (1:02.75), first in Indiana and 37th in the nation in the 100 IM (1:13.57) and second in Indiana in the 50 breaststroke (39.08) and 50 butterfly (31.58). He also ranks first in Indiana second in the Central Zone and eighth in the nation for 9-year-old boys in the IM Xtreme Challenge.

Bowler rolls 300 game

Diante Fields recorded a 300 game in the Tuesday Night Men’s League. Chaz Mathis had the high series (803), while Gray’s Pro Shop posted the team high game (1,293) and series (3,757) and leads the team standings at 154-46.

Vern Phillips notched the high game (288), and Steve Phillips had the high series (676) in the Senior Men’s League. Falcons tallied the team high handicap series (2,993), and Wildcats lead the team standings at 151-57.

Michael Cook rolled the men’s high game (279) and series (684), and Nikki Lynn had the women’s high game (254) and series (665) in the Sunday Night Mixed League. Ziggies posted the team high game (940) and series (2,671), and Here We Go Again leads the team standings at 114-70.

Rockpile stays perfect

The Rockpile ran its record to 11-0 with a 9-3 win against Monsters of Rock.

Matt Street scored three goals, while Ryan Ingalls and Tyler Houchin each added two and Ricky Hooten and John Stitchner each had one for Rockpile. Ben Eckhart, Zach Henderson and Tom Kubat scored for Monsters.

CCA Kutters improved to 8-3 with a 7-1 win against Slappin’ Balls in a battle for second place. James Schnable and Scott Herron each netted three goals for Kutters, while Dave Dickinson added one. Darien Castetter had the goal for Slappin’ Balls.

Yoopers beat Toyota Tsunamis 3-1. Ryan Siefring, Dan del Genio and Josh D’Anna scored for Yoopers. Greg McNealy had the Tsunamis goal.

Our Name Is Earl downed Flying Zambonis 4-2 behind two goals apiece from Tom Kareus and Stephen Cox. Cole Schiefelbein and Shawn Bauman scored for Zambonis.
