Clyde Dale Hoy, 98, of Hope, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Before retirement, he worked in fuel oil delivery for several companies, including his own. Clyde served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and stationed at Wheeler Air Base. After his discharge, Clyde worked as an air craft mechanic at Stout and Freeman Fields.

He was a member of Waynesburg Christian Church. Clyde was a past Worthy Patron of Hope Eastern Star and a past Worthy Worshipful Master of Hope Masonic Lodge for over 65 years. He was also a member of The American Legion, Shriners Club and the National Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.

Clyde enjoyed fishing, whittling and photography.

Born on Aug. 5, 1918, Clyde was the son of Samuel Clarence and Olive Hobbs Hoy. He married Kathryn Imogene McCory on Aug. 30, 1947 and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2015.

Survivors include children, Carol (Mark) Romine and Samuel Hoy, both of Hope; grandchildren, Sara Tuell of Indianapolis and Amy (Jared) Rutan of Columbus; great-grandchildren, CC and Lilly Tuell of Indianapolis and Boone Rutan of Columbus; sister, Mary Ann Jordan of Hartsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Clyde is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his grandson, John Romine; and his brothers, Glen, Paul, Jean, Carl and Lee Hoy.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Norman Funeral Home with Pastors David and Josh Burnett officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be at 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
