Cheer Fund plans Egg Fest fundraiser

Staff Reports

The first Hoosier Egg Fest, a food fundraiser for the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund, is planned for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 20.

Fifteen teams of local EggHead chefs will be competing, using a Big Green Egg cooker, smoker and grill to prepare different dishes for people to sample. Among the food items planned by chefs are ribs, ribeye sandwiches, pulled pork, brisket and other dishes.

It will be hosted by Thompson Furniture & Mattress, 2440 Central Ave., Columbus.

Patrons who like what the teams are serving will be encouraged to place tips in that team’s tip jar, with the team raising the most tip money winning the competition, said Spencer Thompson, president of Thompson Furniture.

Admission is $15 for adults and children age 10 and older, with tickets available at the door. All of the proceeds, including tip money, go to the Firemen’s Cheer Fund.

Paid admission also enters the holder into a raffle for prizes.

The event, which also is sponsored by Johnson Witkemper Insurance, will be conducted rain-or-shine, with tickets available at the door.

Power House Brewing Co. also will be at the festival, selling beer to adult guests.
