Firefighters, police sent to report of man hit by lightning

Lightning struck just feet away from a 68-year-old local man Tuesday morning as severe thunderstorms blanketed the area.

Bill McClain said he was walking east on State Road 46 around 10:30 a.m. when he heard “a loud boom” and saw a white flash. The next thing McClain said he remembers is that he was on the ground.

Columbus police and firefighters were called to the incident just outside the McDonald’s at 2205 W. Jonathan Moore Pike near Interstate 65.
