Sergeant Jonathon Michael Hunter

COLUMBUS

americanflagU.S. Army Sergeant Jonathon Michael Hunter, 23, of Columbus, was killed in action while serving his country, Wednesday, August 2, 2017, in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Hunter enlisted in the U.S. Army April 8, 2014.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 504th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Kimberly and Brian Thompson of Brown County; his father, Mark C. Hunter of Columbus; and Sgt. Hunter’s wife, Whitney Michelle Hunter of Fayetteville, NC.

A memorial service honoring Sgt. Hunter’s life will be held at Columbus East High School Gymnasium at a later date.
