NEW WHITELAND
Emma Virginia Bailey, 71, of New Whiteland, died at 3:37 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
Known lovingly as “Oma”, Emma enjoyed gardening, sewing, decorating and shopping. She cherished the time spent with family and friends.
Emma earned a bachelor’s degree in finance at Indiana University and an MPA, Master of Public Administration at Ball State University.
She worked at Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS), eventually retiring from the position of Systems Accountant.
The memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Rev. Ann B. Haw officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Following the family’s wishes, cremation is planned.
Memorial contributions may be made to Life’s Journey Hospice House of Avon or Community Health Network Foundation-Women’s General Fund.

Oma was born January 24, 1946 in Columbus, Indiana to the late Leonard L. and Virginia L. Powers Rea.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura B. (D. Allan) Haw of Franklin, Lisa L. (Mike) Edwards of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Vanessa L. Brown of Austin, TX., Trisha N. Dragon of Missouri, Tabitha B. Edwards of Indianapolis, Vincent G. Brown of Taiwan, Andre C. Ayala of Franklin; great-grandson, Gannon Michael Dragon; sister, Jaunny E. Luta of Indianapolis and brother, Keith A. Rea of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda I. Ford and brother, Leonard “Smokey” M. Rea.
