East, North, Hauser players named to All-State squads

Columbus East won the Class 5A state football championship, and now, some of the Olympian players are reaping the rewards.

Two East seniors have been selected to this year’s Indiana Football Coaches Association Top 50 All-State squad. Quarterback Josh Major and running back Jamon Hogan are among the honorees.

“It’s definitely an honor to know that all of our hard work that we’ve put in our whole high school career has definitely paid off,” Hogan said.

Hogan ran for 2,296 yards and 34 touchdowns this season. Major ran for 1,401 yards and 22 scores and completed 77 percent of his passes for 1,269 yards and 13 touchdowns.

“It’s a tremendous honor because on the list, there’s a bunch of really good players that had successful seasons at some big-time schools,” Major said. “Just to be mentioned with those guys and Jamon is a really cool honors.”

Three Columbus North players made the Class 6A Senior All-State team — receiver Jaylen Flemmons, linebacker Brigham Kleinhenz and defensive back J.D. Harris. North quarterback Trenton Kelley made the 6A Junior All-State squad.

East offensive lineman Mark Sciutto, defensive lineman Ty Henderson and defensive back Ethan Summa made the 5A Senior All-State team. Linebacker Nash Murphy and defensive back Jonah Wichman are on the 5A Junior All-State squad.

Jets make All-State

Two players from the Class A state runner-up Hauser volleyball team have been named the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association All-State first team.

Hauser seniors Sydney Schoen and Alana Owen are on the first team. Hauser seniors Sarah Tedder and Madie Sherman and Edinburgh junior Taylor Tatlock are on the second team.

Schoen and Tedder were part of the South squad that played in the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association North-South Class 1A-2A All-Star game last month. They were named to the IHSVCA Class A All-State team, while Sherman was on the Class A All-Central District squad and Tatlock was on the Class A All-South District team.

East senior signs

Columbus East senior Kendal Williams signed a letter-of-intent Wednesday to play volleyball at Indiana University-Kokomo.

Williams made this year’s Class 4A All-South District team. She also was an All-Hoosier Hills Conference selection.

Conference play begins

The boys basketball season is barely two weeks old — or in Columbus East’s case, not even a week old — but conference play begins Friday night.

Columbus North, which is off to a 3-1 start, will play its conference opener at Franklin Central. East, which beat Noblesville in its opener Saturday, also will be on the road, traveling to Bedford North Lawrence.
