A local man was arrested on drug-related and firearm charges after a traffic stop.
Columbus police officer Michael Butler stopped a vehicle at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday after the driver disregarded a stop sign at Brooks Street and Kentucky Avenue, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Police determined that driver Marcus A. Hupp, 22, of 1310 Brookside St., did not have a valid driver’s license, Harris said. While searching Hupp, officers found a bag containing methamphetamine, Harris said.
When searching the vehicle, officers found a loaded handgun between the driver’s seat and center console; Hupp did not have a license to carry the weapon, Harris said. When officers inspected the gun, it appeared the weapon’s serial number was removed, Harris said.
Hupp was arrested on preliminary charges of driving while suspended with a prior conviction, possession of methamphetamine, obliterating identifying marks on a handgun and carrying a handgun without a license, Harris said.
He was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $82,500 bond, jail officials said.
