Firm begins sealing cracks on city streets

Fahrner Asphalt Sealers LLC has started a street crack-sealing project in Columbus.

The company will have two crews working 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, city officials said. The project is expected to take about three weeks.

The crack-sealing program is a part of the city’s preventive maintenance plan. By keeping cracks in streets sealed, less water penetrates the asphalt pavement, which results in fewer potholes and longer lasting streets, according to the city’s engineering department.

This week, crews will begin work in the Woodside Industrial Park area and then move to subdivisions Park Forest Estates, Park Forest Estates North, Forest Park, Sims Homestead Addition and Broadmoor Heathfield.

Streets will have no-parking signs posted 24 hours prior to the work. In the event of rain, no-parking notices will remain in effect, although residents may park temporarily on the streets from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m., city officials said.

A complete list of streets to be sealed and the schedule will be posted on the City of Columbus website under “Engineering.” To access the list, visit columbus.in.gov/engineering/local-road-improvement-projects.
