Yes, you might know me… I’m your co-worker that always smiled and asked how are you. I’m the stranger that started talking to you while waiting in line at the store and left you with a smile.

Yes, that was I, holding up the line, talking away, and making new friends.

Yes, you might know me… Often you would come to me with dilemmas of the heart and doubts of the mind seeking guidance.

I always shared my worldly wisdom of just listening. Yes, you KNOW me… We were never strangers.

Ellen Charlene “Skip” Lewis passed away on April 16, 2018, after bouts of cancer.

She was born August 31, 1941 in Shelbyville, the daughter of Bernard and Nellie Pike.

Her most recent work was with Mill Race Senior Citizen Center and working part-time for Kohl’s, which she really enjoyed.

She was a member of the Westport Baptist Church.

She enjoyed family and friends, gardening, and animals of all sorts.

She married William Lewis on February 1, 1963 and he survives.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Larry) Houchens of Columbus, her son, Tim (Lorena) Lewis, Cincinnati, Ohio; her brother, Ed (Hope) Pike of Shelbyville; her grandson. Cpt. Tyler S. Hunter, Field Artillery Battery Commander, his wife Krista; great-grandson, Rowen Hunter; and nephew, James (Glenda) Pike.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and niece, Jessica Pike Berling.

To honor her wishes their will be no public services.

Donations can be made in her name to Mill Race Senior Citizen Center, Bartholomew County Humane Society or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
