COLUMBUS
Ruthanna Kaler, 92, of Columbus, passed from this life at 12:45 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2018 at her home.
Ruthanna retired from Union Starch as secretary and office manager, Cosco where she served as secretary for B.F, Bill and Earl Hamilton and later from Bildico as an office manager.
A 1942 graduate of Scipio High School and a 1943 graduate of Columbus Business College.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Buzzin Duzzin Home Economics Club and Columbus Star Quilters.
Mrs. Kaler was a craft enthusiast enjoying quilting, painting and knitting.
Ruthanna was born October 17, 1925 in Jennings County.
She was the daughter of George and Lucille Helt Hughes.
She married, Charles H. Kaler on January 26, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2005.
Survivors include her children, Janice (Larry) Brown of Greenwood and Jim (Jo) Kaler of Clifford; grandchildren, Joshua (Amy) Brown, Scott (Amy) Kaler, Caleb Kaler and Shalee (Carman) Lastoria; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Betty Williams and Ruby Burbrink.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. David Blystone officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to the time of service.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
