BASEBALL

Jets stymie Spartans

HOPE — Sam Meek threw a one-hitter and struck out a 21 batters to lead Class A No. 1 Hauser to a 6-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against Southwestern (Shelby).

Meek, who struck out four in one inning, was one off the single-game state record of 22. His strikeouts are the most in the state since current Minnesota Twin Lance Lynn struck out 22 for Brownsburg in 2005.

Parker Eickbush went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs for the Jets (10-4, 7-0). Sean Miller went 2 for 3 with two doubles, and Aaron Mee went 2 for 3.

Cougars get first win

GREENSBURG — South Decatur scored the trying run in the seventh and the winning run in the eighth to pick up its first win of the season, a 5-4 MHC decision against Waldron.

Devon Martin went 2 for 4 with two doubles and picked up the win in relief for the Cougars (1-8, 1-4).

Lancers stop Morristown

MORRISTOWN — Zach Giles threw a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts and went 2 for 2 with two RBIs to lead Edinburgh to an 8-1 MHC win at Morristown.

Evan Armey went 2 for 3 for the Lancers (4-6, 4-3). Parker Bryant went 2 for 4.

Braves run-rule Eagles

NASHVILLE — Indian Creek scored 15 times in the first three innings and went on to hand Brown County a 15-4, five-inning Western Indiana Conference loss.

Isaiah Luenebrink had two RBIs for the Eagles (4-10, 2-3).

Lancers get perfection

MORRISTOWN — Maddi Clark threw a five-inning perfect game, striking out all 15 batters she faced, to lead Edinburgh to a 12-0 MHC win at Morristown.

Abby Schooler went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Lancers (8-3, 6-1) at the plate. Emma Wade went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Sidney Beier went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Cougars notch first win

GREENSBURG — South Decatur picked up its first win of the season, an 18-5, five-inning victory against Waldron.

Sierra Lang went 2 for 2 with a home run for the Cougars (1-8, 1-4). Sam Goodfellow went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Claire Wullenweber went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Brooke Owens had a triple and two RBIs.

Jets sweep Spartans

HOPE — Tessa Sims and Hunter Crain combined on a four-hitter and a two hitter as Class A No. 4 Hauser swept MHC games from Southwestern (Shelby) 15-0 and 12-0, both in five innings.

Sims went 3 for 3 with two triples and three RBIs in the first game. Mykenzie Ault, Hannah Johnson, Lauryn Starnes and Katie Taylor all had two hits. Taylor had three RBIs, and Shelby Fugate added two RBIs.

Sims went 4 for 4 with two triples and two RBIs in the second game for the Jets (9-2, 7-1). Zoee Nading, Fugate, Johnson and Taylor all had two hits. Johnson and Starnes each had two RBIs.

Jennings rolls to win

NEW ALBANY — Jennings County pounded out 21 hits in a 15-7 Hoosier Hills Conference win at New Albany.

Lexi South went 4 for 4 with a triple, a home run and four RBIs, and Haley Engelking went 4 for 5 with a double for the Panthers (7-4, 2-0). Kylee Matern went 3 for 6

Also for Jennings, Lexi Brown went 2 for 3 with a double, and Katie Mahoney went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Tori Lee went 2 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs, and Madi Skinner went 2 for 5.

Eagles pound Panthers

NASHVILLE — Emma Summers threw a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and went 2 for 2 at the plate to lead Brown County to a 10-0, six-inning win against Bloomington South.

Aubrey Hollander went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (9-2). Whitney Clark went 2 for 4, Allison Stogsdill went 2 for 5 with a triple and Sara Fishel and Taylor Poling each went 2 for 5.

Flashes edge Bull Dogs

INDIANAPOLIS — No. 14 Columbus North endured its first Conference Indiana loss of the season, a 3-2 setback at Franklin Central.

Shweta Srinivasan beat Sabrina Mullen 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Bull Dogs (7-3, 3-1). Madelyn Sanders and Eva Chevalier downed Brooklyn Schiffli and Carley Sobieraski 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

North’s Yijiang Zhao fell to Lydia Laker 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Jaline Tay lost to Emily Nordhoff 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Ali Bergman and Servane Cloteaux fell to Devin Cooney and Elise Paz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers top Red Devils

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win against Jeffersonville.

Hailey Brown beat Ally Ward 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Ellie Hearne downed Emma Ellis 6-4, 7-5 at no. 3 singles for the Panthers (5-2). Maddy Hill and Callie Wilder topped Gabby Elder and Olivia Bischof 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp beat Loran Walsted and Kassie Brown 6-0, 7-6 (7) at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Rebecca Driver fell to Alayna Lacy 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.

Patriots edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Owen Valley swept the doubles matches in a 3-2 win at Brown County.

Hallee Miller beat Kirsten Norman 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (3-5). Cassidy Davis downed Amanda Samick 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

Brown County’s Julia Williams fell to Peyton Cattarini 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Jacey Ferguson and Baelyn Koester lost to Mady Briggs and McKenzie Rice 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Leah Tucker and Olivia Baughman fell to Allie Goss and Leal Franks 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

BOYS GOLF

Jets topple Yellow Jackets

Justin Compton won medalist honors with a 39 to lead Hauser to a 192-211 win against Morristown at Clifty Creek.

Sam Johnson carded a 45 for the Jets. Matt Sweet added a 50, Ethan Wallace shot 58 and Sophia Musillami had a 62.

Eagles down Spartans

NASHVILLE — Parker VanNess won medalist honors with 1-under-par 35 to lead Brown County to a 191-218 win against Southwestern (Shelby) at Salt Creek.

Ben Rygiel carded a 48 for the Eagles, who were playing in the first time in two weeks because of rainouts. Curtis Lookebill added a 51, Peyton Prockor shot 57 and Brendon Asher had a 58.

Lancers fall to Cougars

EDINBURGH — Bladen Hancock won medalist honors with a 38, but Edinburgh fell to Greenwood Christian Academy 179-238 at Timbergate.

Zach Burton added a 66 for the Lancers. Noah Childers and Darius Bennett each shot 67.
