Driver arrested after chain-reaction accident on west side

A local woman was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after she was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Columbus’ west side.

Columbus police were sent to a chain reaction crash on Jonathan Moore Pike near Interstate 65 at 7:11 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers spoke with all three drivers including Kristin R. Belli, 54, of 3437 Westenedge Drive, who had collided with the vehicle in front of her at the traffic signal, causing a secondary crash with another vehicle, Harris said.

While speaking with Belli, officers noted her speech was slurred and they detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath, Harris said. Belli was given a portable breath test and provided a breath sample of .34 percent, which is more than four times the legal limit, Harris said.

Belli was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw and arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .15 percent or greater, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a previous conviction and operating a vehicle while intoxicated — endangerment, jail officials said.

Belli was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $17,500 bond, jail officials said.
