Former publisher’s column debuts today

The Republic welcomes a new featured columnist to its Opinion page lineup this week. Bud Herron, who served as publisher of The Republic from 1998 until his 2007 retirement, will write on a variety of topics each Sunday.

In his debut column, the Columbus man writes about a 1972 experience as news editor of The Republic — one that made an impression on the young journalist, especially after being called into the office of the company’s publisher and CEO. It was a conversation that would be continued eight years later.
