MALE

Dalton Back, Columbus East sophomore baseball player

Back went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs in a 10-0 win at Southport. The following day, he went 4 for 4 with a home run and six RBIs in a 12-10 win at Fishers. Friday, he went 1 for 3 in a 4-0 loss at Columbus North.

His performance last week: “I thought I did pretty well last week. My hitting was pretty good last week, and I was pleased to hit the way I did.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just try to keep it all the same, just the same routine to make sure I’m getting stretched from behind the plate and make sure my mechanics are the same while I’m at the plate, too.”

Favorite drink: “Chocolate milk”

Favorite food: “Ice cream”

Favorite book: “The Hatchet”

Favorite class: “Science”

Role model: “Probably my older brother (Joseph Back)”

Best advice: “Just don’t get in your own head. There are a lot of things that can go wrong, not only in the game, but in life. You can’t take it personally.”

Athletics goal: “I’d like to play baseball for a Division l college.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Mexico, just because the culture and the views and areas down there are really nice.”

FEMALE

Megna Chari, Columbus East junior tennis player

Chari teamed with Kathryn Hozden for a straight-set No. 1 doubles wins against Bedford North Lawrence and East Central. She also posted straight-set No. 1 singles wins against Greensburg and Batesville.

Her performance last week: ”I think I played well. I was consistent and just worked on my shot.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Just try to keep my mind off of it by being with my team and just having fun and then practicing before.”

Favorite drink: “Gatorade”

Favorite food: “Pasta”

Favorite book: “To Kill a Mockingbird (by Harper Lee)”

Favorite class: “Biology”

Role model: ”My parents (Usha Raghavan and Srikanth Padmanbhan)”

Best advice: “Just always be positive, and never give up.”

Athletics goal: ”To win (Hoosier Hills) conference this week.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Africa, because I want to go to the Sahara Desert and look at the stars. ”
