The Columbus North and Columbus East baseball and softball teams would not meet each other until the sectional finals, thanks to pairings revealed by the IHSAA on Sunday night.
The seventh-ranked Bull Dog baseball team will play Franklin at 6 p.m. May 22 in the first round of a Class 4A sectional at Shelbyville. East Central and Whiteland will play the second game that night, and the winners will meet at 6 p.m. May 24. The Olympians will face Shelbyville in the second game that night, and the final is at noon May 27.
Columbus East will host a 4A softball sectional this year and will play Franklin in the opening round at 6 p.m. May 20. North will play Shelbyville in the second game that night. On May 21, the East-Franklin winner will face Whiteland at 6 p.m., followed by the North-Shelbyville winner meeting East Central. The final is at 6 p.m. May 23.
Hauser softball will play Switzerland County in the first round of a seven-team Class 2A sectional at Milan at a time and day to be determined. That game will be followed by Brown County facing Milan, and the winners of those games will meet in the semifinals.
Hauser baseball will play South Ripley in the first round of an eight-team 2A sectional at South Ripley at around 7:45 p.m. May 22. Brown County will face Milan in the opener at 5:30 p.m. day, and the winners will meet in the semifinals at 10 a.m. May 27. The final is at 6 p.m. May 27.
Jennings County baseball and softball both drew first-round byes. The Panther softball team will play the winner between Bedford North Lawrence and Floyd Central in the semifinals at New Albany. The Jennings baseball team will face Floyd Central in the semifinals at Seymour.
In Class A softball, Edinburgh and Morristown will meet in the opener of the four-team Indianapolis Lutheran Sectional, with the winner facing the Lutheran-Greenwood Christian Academy winner for the title. South Decatur will play North Decatur in the semifinals of a five-team sectional at North Decatur. Trinity Lutheran will meet Rising Sun in the semifinals of a five-team sectional at New Washington.
In Class A baseball, Edinburgh will play the Lutheran-Morristown winner in the semifinals of a five-team sectional at Morristown. South Decatur will face Oldenburg Academy in the first-round at Jac-Cen-Del, with the winner meeting the Waldron-JCD winner in the semifinals. Trinity Lutheran will play Rising Sun in the first round of a five-team sectional at Shawe Memorial, with the winner facing the Henryville-Crothersville winner in the semifinals.
Dates and times for most of those sectional sites will be determined this week. All baseball sectional finals will be played on May 27 (Memorial Day).
Softball regional action takes place on May 28. Baseball regional and softball semistate games are June 1. The softball state finals are June 7-8 at Purdue. Baseball semistate games are June 8, and the state finals are June 14-15 at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
