East graduate qualifies for NCAA track regional
Memphis senior Jason Kimmet has qualified for the track and field NCAA East Regional, which will be May 24-26 in Tampa, Florida.
The Columbus East graduate finished fifth in last weekend’s American Athletic Conference Championships in 51.85 seconds. That helped the Tigers finish second behind Houston in the team standings.
East graduate coaching in small college world series
Columbus East graduate Tim Bailey has coached the Cleary University (Michigan) softball team to wins in its first two games in the USCAA Small College World Series.
Cleary (22-12) was the No. 1 seed for the World Series, which is being played in DuBois, Pennsylvania.
Bailey has been the coach at Cleary since the softball program started in 2015. He has been the head softball instructor at Michigan Sports Academy in Howell and also coaches the MSA 18U travel team.
Stewart-Haas Racing bringing back fan club
Stewart-Haas Racing, co-owned by Tony Stewart and Gene Haas, is bring back a fan club.
The SHR Fan Club, which is free to join, will offer fans chances to win gear and access to the inner workings of Stewart-Haas Racing through meet-and-greets with team personalities at the track and VIP events at its race shop.
The first event on StewartHaasRacing.com/FanClub is June 1 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. Following pole qualifying, every SHR driver will appear at the track’s infield stage for a question-and-answer session with fans. SHR Fan Club members will have a premium seating area at the front of the stage.
