Hunter honored at NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600

U.S. Army Sgt. Jonathon Hunter of Columbus will be honored by NASCAR as part of a special Memorial Day weekend tribute during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

As part of the 600 Miles of Remembrance, the names of U.S. Armed Forces members who died for their country will be displayed on the windshields of each of the 40 Monster Energy NASCAR Series cars in the race.

Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion and past NASCAR Cup Series champion, will carry Hunter’s name during the 600-mile Coca-Cola 600, which will be broadcast at 6 p.m. today on FOX.

Hunter, 23, a sergeant in the U.S. Army, died on Aug. 2, 2017 in Kandahar, Afghanistan when a vehicle-carried IED attacked his NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan. He was a 2011 Columbus East High School graduate.
