Firefighters come to the rescue after pool party canceled

Third- through fifth-graders at CSA Lincoln were celebrating the last day of school Wednesday, but were crestfallen that their planned outing at Donner Aquatics Center was canceled because of ongoing pool repairs.

The Columbus Fire Department, as they are known to do, came to the rescue with a fire truck. They were assisted by several other community organizations to improvise a pool party and other activities for the kids for the last day of school.

Engine Co. No. 1 from the fire department’s Station 1 hooked up to a hydrant at the school to improvise a water park for just over a half hour at 1 p.m. Wednesday. In addition to the regular fire hoses that were deployed, firefighters also used what is referred to as a “deck gun hose” which is mounted on the top of the engine to deploy water over the students.

The students weren’t the only one’s soaked, according to Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman. The firefighters on the engine were also completely soaked too, he said.
