Scout troop helps with North Christian Church storm cleanup

The severe storms that tore through Columbus on May 31 left tree branches and debris scattered across the city. North Christian Church on the city’s north side was no exception.

Within days, a crew from Boy Scout Troop 557 — at the request of the Rev. Tonja M. Gerardy, pastor of the church arrived to clear the grounds of scattered twigs and branches.

The scouts was eager to help and “did a fantastic, thorough job,” said Gerardy, whose church charters the troop.

“We have a special relationship with them,” scout leader Thad Hatchett said. “The church gives us a place to meet, and we try to repay them with service.”
