Local man injured in fall from roof

A Columbus man has been hospitalized after a work-related fall last weekend in southeast Bartholomew County.

Abel Ramirez, 55, suffered multiple injuries late Saturday morning after falling through a roof while removing siding at the Azalia Elevator, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

After emergency responders arrived shortly before noon at the grain elevator located off County Road 800S, a decision was made to bring in a medical helicopter to transport Ramirez to a Marion County hospital, a news release stated.

Ramirez was listed in good condition Tuesday afternoon at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Updates from family members indicate that Ramirez, whose injuries include head and chest trauma, will likely be hospitalized for at least two weeks, according to an Azalia Elevator spokesperson.

Members of the Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department assisted deputies and emergency medical technicians from Columbus Regional Health at the scene.
