Columbus has approved changes to its take-home vehicle policy for police officers as part of an effort to help with the recruitment and retention of employees.
Columbus Police Department officers were already permitted to take cars home with them within Bartholomew County, but changes in the ordinance approved by the Columbus City Council expanded the take-home car policy to counties contiguous to Bartholomew County.
Approval was also required by the Board of Works in order for the changes to take effect. That approval was given during the board’s Tuesday meeting.
