Housing development project in Tipton Lakes continued

A developer seeking approval of a revised preliminary plat application in the Tipton Lakes area that had been targeted for duplexes has been granted a continuance until November.

The Columbus Plan Commission voted Wednesday to continue the case from Spring Hill Lake Development until Nov. 14. A request from land developer Jeffrey Bush to rezone land of 26.79 acres of land was denied by Columbus City Council on Tuesday in a 5-2 vote.

Bush had sought to develop 20 duplexes targeted to individuals 55 and older as part of the Village of Tipton Lakes. He had also proposed doubling the number of lots as part of the revised preliminary plat application that was to be considered Wednesday.

The case was continued with the condition that letters be sent out to neighboring property owners, said Ashley Beckort, senior planner with the city-county planning department. Beckort said under the current zoning, Residential Single Family 2, the developer is permitted to build single-family homes, but not duplexes.

Any change in the number of lots for the project would also require approval by the Columbus Plan Commission, Beckort said.

Bush said he is looking at different options for the property before deciding how next to proceed.
