Columbus police arrested two people on drug-related charges after a traffic stop near Terrace Lake Road and County Road 200S.
Officer Travis Harbaugh stopped a speeding vehicle there at 12:15 a.m. Sunday and spoke with the driver, Rikki G. Herrera, 25, Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Harbaugh noted a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, Harris said. When Herrera and a passenger, Mauricio Colin, 20, Indianapolis, exited the vehicle, police noticed a handgun inside the car where Colin had been seated.
Colin told officers he owned the firearm and did not have a handgun permit, Harris said. Colin was arrested and officers later located marijuana in his pants pockets, Harris said.
Officers also arrested Herrera after marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle, Harris said.
Herrera was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Colin was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a handgun without a license and possession of marijuana.
