Olympians open with win
BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East opened its volleyball season Tuesday night with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 win at Bloomington North.
Mady Foster led the Olympians with 18 assists, 11 digs and two aces. and C.J. Clauson added nine blocks and two aces.
Also for East, Allison Mack pounded 10 kills, Ashlyn Bergman had 11 digs and Reece Whitehead served two aces. Clauson contributed five kills, and Foster and Mack each added two blocks.
Pioneers sweep Cougars
CLARKSVILLE — Trinity Lutheran ran into one of the state’s top teams in a 25-16, 25-9, 25-14 loss at Providence.
The Cougars (1-1) were facing a Pioneers team that had made five consecutive state finals appearances in Class 2A and 3A before moving up to 4A last season.

North cruises to win
Nathaly Munnicha fired a 1-under-par 35 to win medalist honors and lead seventh-ranked Columbus North to a 162-202 win against Batesville at Harrison Lake Country Club.
Alex Munnicha carded a 38 for the Bull Dogs. Ella Wilks added a 44, Yestika Nischol shot 45, Annie Anderson had a 47 and Gwen Anderson finished with a 50.
Macy Euler, who played JV for this match, had a 38.
Owls top Panthers
SEYMOUR — Sydney Campbell won medalist honors with a 39, but Jennings County fell to Seymour 183-191 at Shadowood.
Peyton Whitehead added a 46 for the Panthers. Destiny Joray had a 52, and Annie Ertel and Ellie Hearne each shot 54.
Spartans nip Cougars
FRANKLIN — Annie Gant won medalist honors with a 41, but South Decatur was edged by Southwestern (Shelby) 213-214 at Cypress Run.
Katie Vandiver added a 52 for the Cougars. Kamrie Owens had a 60, and Joy Tryon and Ashley Vanaman each shot 61.

Jets edge Golden Bears
SHELBYVILLE — Hauser pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 singles to open its season with a 3-2 win at Shelbyville.
Ethan Wallace beat Austin Dwenger 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Sean Miller downed Austin Perry 6-1, 6-7 (7-4) at No. 2 singles, and Aaron Mee topped Alex Knarr 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Jets.
Hauser’s Jacob Luken and Keagan Miller fell to Connor Phelps and Luke Asher 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Tyler Moore and Caleb Hoover lost to Layton Stieneker and Matthew Bunton 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Braves topple Panthers
NORTH VERNON — Brownstown Central won one three set match and claimed another after winning tiebreakers in both sets to pull out a 4-1 win at Jennings County.
Weston Miller and Kent Biehle beat Jackson Lahrman 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 for the lone point for the Panthers (1-1).
Jennings’ Thomas Schuler fell to Ethan Carlin 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Wyatt St. John lost to Ethan Wischmeier 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Chad Gasper fell to Adam Pottschmidt 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Kyle Tempest and Joe Kelley lost to Reece Carlin and Max McClure 7-6 (5), 7-6 (8) at No. 2 doubles.
Eagles stop Artesians
NASHVILLE — Martinsville won the No. 1 singles match, but Brown County rolled in the other four to claim a 4-1 victory.
Chase Watson beat Gus Eaton 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Josh Miller downed Cameron Owens 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (2-0). Noah Cochran and Aiden Burt topped Gage Jessil and Aiden O’Connor 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Nolan Patterson and Spencer Blee beat Zach Gross and Ben McConnell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Brown County’s Aaron McCann fell to Jake Pipert 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

Panthers blank Cubs
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County scored a goal in each half to open its season with a 2-0 Hoosier Hills Conference win against Madison.
Andrea Reitman scored off an assist from Naomi Beal in the 34th minute. The pair reversed roles in the 72nd minute, with Beal scoring off a pass from Reitman.
The Panthers outshot the Cubs 21-8. Kenna Maschino recorded eight saves.
