Block party planned on State Street: About 400 expected for third annual event

Food, music and games are in store for visitors during a block party planned by the State Street Area Association.

The free event, now in its third year, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the American and Roby Anderson Community Center, 421 McClure Road.

Free food — including pulled pork, hotdogs and other items — will be provided to visitors, while a range of activities for children are planned, said Julie Bilz, president of the State Street Area Association.

Kids can enjoy a bounce house and will be able to participate in painting a storage container with splatter paint, Bilz said. Planners are anticipating 400 people based on previous attendance levels, Bilz said.

“It’s going to be a great family friendly event and we hope everyone attends,” Bilz said.

Columbus rock ‘n roll band Ragtop Deluxe will perform during the block party, which will feature the Bartholomew County Public Library’s Bookmobile and law enforcement officers from the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

The State Street Area Association plans to have a booth with information, while door prizes that includes gifts and gift cards will also be given away to individuals who attend, Bilz said.

Purpose of the event is to bring people together to enjoy a day of fun and socialization, she said.

“There’s plenty of games, food and music,” she said. “I think it’ll be a fun event and I want to welcome everyone to come out.”
