Flintwood Wesleyan — The Amplify nontraditional service at 9 a.m. and The Well traditional service at 11 a.m. Sunday will be led by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes meet at 10 a.m. in their regular rooms.

Adult choir practice is at 5 p.m. followed by the Sunday evening service beginning at 6 p.m.

A new Bible study, “In the Beginning…,” meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and will entail an in-depth study of the book of Genesis.

Wednesday activities begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by GLOW at 6:15 p.m. The Prayer Team will meet at 6:15 p.m. in the Prayer Room. Youth meets at 6:30 p.m. and Adult Bible study will meet at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

First Presbyterian Church — The service on Sunday will include two baptisms. The sermon “Journey by Stages” ties to the Genesis 12:1-9 story, when God calls Abram and Sarai to emigrate to a new land. The adult choir will lead in worship. The service begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 512 Seventh Street in Columbus.

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays and a second support group of working-age men meets at 6:15 a.m. each Monday.

People in the community in need of a meal are invited to hot meals offered at 5 p.m. Fridays, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ friendly.

Grace Lutheran — Sunday’s sermon, “Living between belief and unbelief,” is based on Mark 9:14-29, in which Jesus addresses unbelievers. Worship services will be at 8 and 10:30 a.m., with Sunday school for all ages at 9:25 a.m.

ALPHA Class continues Tuesday on the topic, “How did we get the Bible?” and the Searching Scripture class will continue with a study of the Ten Commandments. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m. Child care will be available.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The Revs. Dennis McCarty and Nic Cable will speak on “The Covenants We Make” at the service starting at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd.

The discussion will include covenants made with oneself and promises people make with one another through the church community. There are also the commitments made to people beyond the walls of the community in the wider world.

First United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. traditional service and the 11 a.m. celebration service, the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver his message, “Joining the Choir,” at the church, 618 Eighth St. The scripture will be Revelation 5:8-14. Sunday’s service will include music appreciation, and thanks will be given for all those who share their musical talents. Sunday school for all ages will begin at 10:10 a.m. Childcare will be available during both services.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday’s 10 a.m. sermon marks the 17th Sunday after Pentecost and is titled “God’s Wisdom or the World’s,” with text from Proverbs 1:20-33, James 3:1-12 and Mark 8:27-38.

Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study will resume at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Westside Community Church — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the service at 10 a.m. today. A children’s program through grade 6 will meet at the same time.

There are several new Bible studies beginning this month. The Ruby Tuesday Women’s Bible Study has begun a new study, “The Joy of Encouragement,” by David Jeremiah. This group meets each Tuesday from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at the church.

There will be a men’s and women’s Wednesday night, seven-week Bible Study beginning Sept. 26. The study will meet at 7 p.m. at the church. The men’s study will be “The Armor of God” and the Women’s study will be “Gideon: Your Weakness. God’s Strength” by Priscilla Shirer.

The church is located at 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. Because of road construction, access to the church is from Goeller Boulevard from the east or County Road 525W from the west.

Petersville United Methodist — The theme for the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at Petersville United Methodist Church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, will be “The Bottom Line is We Need to Love All Members of our Community.” The liturgist will share scriptures from Matthew 25:36-46. The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will use “What Matters?” for her sermon. Teresa Covert will present the children’s message, and the adult choir will provide special music, directed by Kathy Bush and accompanied by Chris Kimerling. The loose-change offering is directed to Operation Classroom, and the congregation is invited to donate gravy packets to Love Chapel for holiday meals. Also being collected are recycleable bottle caps for Clifty Creek Elementary School. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The Monday night Bible study at the home of Chris Kimerling will meet at 6:30 p.m.; the other Monday night Bible study will meet at the home of Larry and Connie Nolting, also at 6:30 p.m. The Sit and Stitch group will meet Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Nolting home.

Choir practice will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and Barb Hedrick will lead the Prayer Group at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The Kiss the Critter fundraiser will take place today. This “Outlaw” edition will pit in-laws against one another. The critter will be a surprise. The event is a fundraiser for church youth group projects.

Starting in October, the church will host a series of discipleship training classes. The first class begins at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 13. The class is a New Testament elective on “Philippians” and will be taught be the Rev. Glenn Black. The class will last six to seven weeks and the cost is $ 25. Registration forms will be on the website.

First Baptist — The church’s annual 5K Run/Walk to benefit Love Chapel will begin at 8 a.m. today.

Old Union United Church of Christ — A soup dinner is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh.

Westside Community Church — Westside men will have a “Steak-Out” from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. Because of road construction, access to the church is from Goeller Boulevard from the east or County Road 525W from the west.

The church will have a golf scramble beginning at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at Shadowwood Golf Course in Seymour with dinner and awards to follow. Information: 812-342-8464.
