Mary J. Knifley

Mary J. Knifley, 93, of Columbus, died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mary spent her life as a homemaker and a teacher. She was a member of Hope Moravian Church and Kill Kare Klub. She was also a member of Hartsville Chapter Eastern Star #550, where she was appointed Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of Indiana to Grand Chapter of Georgia in 1999.

She enjoyed camping and traveling.

Born on November 10, 1924 in Seneca, Illinois, Mary was the daughter of Harry and Eula Sanders Jones. She married William J. Knifley on April 14, 1945, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2003.

Survivors include children, Nancy (Grover) Patrick of Fort Wayne and Pamela (Marty) Emmert of El Paso, Texas; grandchildren, Kelli (Mike) Giles of Hope, John Knifley of Columbus, and Aaron (Shana) Emmert of Roswell, New Mexico; great-grandchildren, Danielle Giles of Hope, Aaron Emmert of Roswell, New Mexico, and Ryan Emmert of Roswell, New Mexico; great-great-grandchild, Aleah Grace Giles of Hope; sister, Lois Slone of Lexington, Kentucky; and daughter-in-law, Vicki Knifley of Columbus.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Noel H. Knifley.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Kilps officiating. An Eastern Star service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
