Elizabethtown man accused of stealing railroad property

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested an Elizabethtown man accused of stealing railroad spikes and scrap metal in the 1600 block of Jonesville Road.

Sgt. Justin Arnholt located Tony E. Gibson, 56, of 7285 W. County Road 800N, Elizabethtown, at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday on railroad property, where Gibson was found with a wheelbarrow loaded with the spikes and metal.

Gibson’s Chevrolet pickup was parked on railroad property and the truck bed was also loaded with scrap metal, deputies said. Drug paraphernalia was found inside Gibson’s vehicle, deputies said.

Gibson was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, criminal trespass and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said.

He was being held in the Bartholomew county Jail in lieu of $12,500 bond, jail officials said.
