Police recover stolen handgun from Seymour man

Columbus Police Department officers arrested a Seymour man and recovered a stolen handgun after responding to a reported disturbance on the city’s west side.

At about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, officers went to the 2300 block of Merchant’s Mile and spoke with Kevin A. Hackman, 44.

While patting down Hackman, officers recovered a .380-caliber handgun in Hackman’s back pants pocket. A check of the firearm’s serial number revealed it was reported stolen out of Jackson County, said Lt. Matt Harris, public information officer for the Columbus Police Department.

Hackman was arrested and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he was booked on a preliminary charge of possession of stolen property/theft, a Level 6 Felony, Harris said. He was released on $7,500 bond, jail officials said.
