Coroner identifies teen who died in Richmond school shooting incident

RICHMOND — The Wayne County Coroner Ron Stevens and the Indiana State Police have released the name of the teenager who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Richmond Middle School.

The deceased is Brandon Clegg, age 14, of Richmond, according to the coroner’s office.

The preliminary autopsy results indicate the manner of death was a single self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to investigators. The coroner has not authorized the Indiana State Police to release the location of the gunshot wound. There is no indication of any other gunshot wounds or trauma to Clegg.

Indiana State Police said Stevens emphasized that this is a preliminary autopsy result and final results will not be available for several weeks.

The Indiana State Police confirmed that the source of the 911 call that alerted authorities and school officials to the imminent danger was placed by the suspect’s mother, Mary York, 42, of Richmond. Police are not releasing the 911 call because it is currently evidence in the case.

Once the investigation into the incident is completed, it will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.
