Fire temporarily closes Qdoba

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A grease fire temporarily closed a Mexican restaurant on Columbus’ northeast side.

The Columbus Fire Department responded to a report of fire at Qdoba Mexican Grill, 1665 N. National Road, at about 3:15 p.m. today. Engine Company 2 arrived within minutes and reported that fire had already been extinguished by Qdoba management, said Capt. Mike Wilson, CFD spokesman.

Chris Anderson, the restaurant’s general manager, told investigators that he was in his office on a conference call when an employee knocked on the office door to alert him of the fire. Anderson told investigators that when he left his office he saw flames coming from a tortilla chip frying device, Wilson said.

Bartholomew County Health Department officials assessed the damages and advised restaurant management that the store could reopen after cleaning the food preparation area near the tortilla chip fryer, Wilson said.

The restaurant was expected to reopen later today, Wilson said.
