Three seeking to take Jerome’s seat on Columbus City Council

Three men are vying to fill the term of an outgoing Columbus City Council member that will be determined by the Bartholomew County Republican Party on Saturday.

Seven Republican precinct committee members from council District 3 will consider three individuals during a 10 a.m. caucus to become councilman Frank Jerome’s successor and will fill out the remainder of his term, which expires next year.

The caucus, which will be a closed meeting, will be held at Bartholomew County Republican headquarters, 718 Pearl St., said Barb Hackman, chairwoman of the Bartholomew County Republican Party.

The three individuals being considered are:

  • Russ Poling Sr., who is a member of the Columbus Plan Commission and works at Cummins Inc.
  • Jon Padfield, an assistant professor at Purdue Polytechnic Columbus and former District 30 state representative. He also served as treasurer during state Sen. Greg Walker’s re-election campaign and is president of Proffer Brainchild Analytics & Innovation, an Indianapolis-based training and consulting company.
  • David Bush, owner of Kenny Glass Inc. and whose family owns Bush’s Market.
