City accepts right-of-way dedication

The city has accepted a right-of-way dedication on behalf of a Columbus couple, who are planning to subdivide their property into two lots.

The Columbus Board of Works on Thursday approved the right-of-way dedication after residents Ray and Betty King decided to give 2,017 square feet along McClure Road to the city.

The Kings plan to subdivide their 1.06-acre property located at 1504 McClure Road into two lots with plans to build a new home on the second lot along Azelea Road, said Melissa Begley, assistant planning director for the city-county planning department.

The original parcel of land currently has a single-family home with an attached garage, shed, storage building and an attached garage, she said.

Begley said the city’s subdivision control ordinance requires the dedication of right-of-way along a new lot to meet its thoroughfare plan, but noted that the new lot already has the appropriate amount of right-of-way available.

However, the applicants voluntarily decided to dedicate the right-of-way along McClure Road to the city that could be used for road widening if necessary, Begley said.
