Two veteran members of local law enforcement who have played a key role in drug interdiction are hanging up their badges, but will continue their partnership in retirement.

Sgt. Kris Weisner of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and his K-9 police dog Bolt, partners since Jan. 1, 2015, will transition to roles as owner and pet.

They were honored for their service Thursday afternoon during a ceremony at the sheriff’s department, where both were presented with retirement badges and received congratulations from a group of well-wishers.

“These two have taken a lot of drugs off the street. We’re going to miss them,” Sheriff Matt Myers said to the crowd.

Weisner, 56, leaves after 36 years with the department. Bolt, a German shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix who will turn 8 in March, has served the department for more than six-and-a-half years.

Their last official day with the department is Sunday, although their final working day was Jan. 20.
