Organizers accept donations for Columbus Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Organizers for the Columbus Walk to End Alzheimer’s are calling on residents for donations and fundraisers as they continue planning this year’s walk.

The walk, which will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 and start at Mill Race Center in downtown Columbus, has a fundraising goal of $98,000 and seeks to have more than 800 participants, according to the event’s organizers.

Donations will be used to fund the Alzheimer’s Association’s free, nationwide 24-hour helpline (800-272-3900), which provides guidance and assistance for people suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as their caregivers and healthcare providers, according to the association’s website.

The process of planning the event takes around seven months and local residents can expect to see people selling T-shirts to promote and raise money for the walk, the event’s organizers said in a statement.

Alzheimer’s Disease is a degenerative brain disease that affects cognitive function and severely impairs memory, thinking and other behaviors over time, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
