Services and studies

Amazing Grace Gospel — Worship services are at 10:30 a.m., with an evening mass at 6:30 p.m., led by Pastor Tom Deane.

Bible study is every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and there is an open mic night every Friday at 6:30 p.m. Bring songs and instruments and praise the lord.

The church is located at 2611 Central Ave., Suite 2, Columbus, adjacent to Amazing Joe’s restaurant and next to the All State Insurance Building.

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus.

Every visitor receives a free gift.

Prayer of Power starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and is preceded with requests and instructions on prayer. The Celebrate Recovery session starts at 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — Join us for worship beginning at 9:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, followed by fellowship time.

Sunday’s service will focus on Psalm 150 and John 20:19-31.

The Second Hour Christian Nurture study is at 11 a.m.

Child care is available during Sunday services and second hour studies.

A men’s breakfast is 7:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month for men of all ages.

The Last Fridays Bluegrass event is 7:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along or simply enjoy the music.

Collections and donations for Love Chapel are: cereal in April, peanut butter and jelly in May and canned fruit in June.

The church will be assembling kits for a Presbyterian disaster relief project after worship May 5. This is an opportunity to contribute items for hygiene kits and assemble them. The kits provide practical help for those recovering from a tornado, flood, hurricane or other disaster.

First Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 512 Seventh St., Columbus. This second Sunday of Easter will be the annual Youth Sunday, so look forward to their creative and lively reflections on what it means to be an Easter People. The passage for that day is Matthew 28:16-20, what is The Great Commission.

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals, offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and the 11 a.m. Celebration Service, Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “What Jesus Left Behind: A Story,” at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. The scripture will be John 20:19-31.

Sunday School for all ages begins at 10:10 a.m. Child care is available during both services.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday service will be led by Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor, at 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus. There will be a time of fellowship between the two services with coffee and donuts. Sunday School and evening activities are dismissed.

The small group Bible study, “In The Beginning…,” is 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in The Friendship Center. It is studying the book of Genesis.

Wednesday activities begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by GLOW at 6:15 p.m. The Prayer Team meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Prayer Room. Youths meet at 6:30 p.m. and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

On Thursdays, Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

At 8 a.m. today is a “Man Up” men’s breakfast at Blackerby’s Hangar 5 Restaurant.

Garden City Church of Christ — A three-week series started on Easter Sunday at 10 a.m. The theme for Sunday will be “Love that Conquers Death.” The theme for May 5 will be “Love That Makes All Things New.”

Pastor Brian Gilroy is the lead minister and Pastor Brian Graves is the family life minister.

From 6:30 to 8 p.m., on Mondays through May 13, the small group “Hope Beyond Today” is starting at the church. This group has been developed by those who lost loved ones and hopes to provide hurting people with practical ways to deal with their pain as a result of their life-changing loss. Contact the church or sign up at the welcome center in the church.

Light of Life Lutheran — Bible Study will be held at 4 p.m. May 19 at The Commons, 300 Washington St., Columbus. It will take place in the Xenia Miller Conference Room located on the second floor of The Commons.

The study topic will be: “Why Is The World So Crazy?” The Bible study will be led by Pastor Scott Miller from Light of Life Lutheran Church. Light of Life is a confessional Lutheran Church that holds strongly to every word of the Bible as the Word of God. The study will last about an hour. Study materials will be provided. All are welcome.

Memorial Baptist — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m., at 2320 Seventh St., Columbus.

Sunday school classes for all ages follow at 10:45 a.m. There are programs for both children and youth as well.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday service is at 10 a.m, it is the second Sunday of Easter. Sunday school is at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m. Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “A Naturally Born Pessimist,” with readings from Acts 5:27-32; Psalm 150; and John 20:19-31.

Wednesday Bible study resumes at 6 p.m.

There will be a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

St. Paul Lutheran — At the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Pastor Doug Bauman will deliver the message, “Written for You,” based on John 20:19-31 Sunday at the church, 6045 E. State St., Columbus.

All family and friends are invited to hear confirmands Ethan Harris, Noah Hoeltke, Mason Kaiser, Caleb Knollman, Maggie Mathews, Samuel Nienaber, Jacob Strietelmeier and Glory Wofford offer their confession of faith Sunday in the Fellowship Room at 9:30 a.m. Their confirmation service and first communion will be May 5 at the 10:45 am service.

Petersville United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message “Freedom to Sing.” Scriptures from Acts 5 will be shared at the church, located at 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. The focus will be on the question, “How can we keep from singing once we have experienced new life?” Special music will be provided by the choir, and Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon. All loose coins received during each Sunday’s offering through the month of June will go to Love Chapel.

A time of fellowship and a pitch-in brunch will follow the service. All are encouraged to attend as there will be discussion on the church’s Fruitful Congregation Journey Discipleship Plan, CWCS, which stands for Connect, Worship, Commit and Serve.

The Baker’s Dozen study group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the home of Larry and Connie Nolting. The Journey study class also meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Chris Kimerling’s home. New members are always welcome to both classes.

The “Sit ‘n Stitch” group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Nolting home. Choir practice is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and the Prayer Group, led by Barb Hedrick, will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Unitarian Universalist — At 10 a.m. Sunday, the service message, “Draw the Circle Wide,” will be given by Chalice Circle Program Participants in which the church will reflect on the importance of finding a circle, where deep listening, authentic sharing and open-heartedness are at its center.

Westside Community — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the service at the church, at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus.

Pastor Dennis will lead a four-week follow-up video series titled “A Case for Easter,” featuring Lee Strobel. This study will be on Wednesday nights from 7 to 8 p.m. through May 15.

Wilson Chapel Christian Union — On Sunday, the church presents Robert Rogers Mighty In The Land Ministries. Guest speaker Robert Rogers will also share in a time of praise and worship through music. Come to the pitch-in after the service with desserts and beverages.

Events

Flintwood Wesleyan — The open market will begin at 8:30 a.m. May 4. The market will be the first Saturday of each month May through October. Local artisans will be set up plus food booths and produce booths. If you are interested in renting a booth contact Kim Rutan in the church office.

The annual fish fry event is May 18.

First United Methodist — At 7 p.m. May 31, FUMC will present Dr. David K. Lamb on the Organ.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert is free and open to the public.

From 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 2 and May 3, FUMC will host the 54th annual Smorgasbord. Adult tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door; children 5-10 years old are $5 in advance, $6 at the door; children 4 and under are free.

Lowell General Baptist — There will be a Revival starting at 7 p.m. Monday. Brother Roger Poynter from Glasgow Kentucky will be the visiting preacher.

There is a hymn sing at 7 p.m. May 4. Judith Montgomery and Family from Shoals Indiana will be the featured singers.

Garden City Church of Christ — At 6:30 p.m. May 28, Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda presents “We Will Go.” This concert is free and open to the public.

Watoto Children’s Choir has traveled extensively since 1994, sharing a message of hope for Africa’s most vulnerable children and women. On almost every day of the year, the choir is performing somewhere in the world.
